Mamas and Papas

''Crashon Screamon All Fall Down'' proposed LP cover
L-R on top: Jill Gibson & Cass Elliot
L-R on bottom: John Phillips & Denny Doherty

My favorite band from the 1960s are the Mamas and Papas. I love many rock groups from the '60s but my all time fave are the Ms & Ps. I have been a fan of their music for many years now. All 5 of the Mamas & Papas studio albums are a musical journey on their own. They were the grooviest singers of their time. So cool and so visually appealing to the eye. But the music was the best. My favorite member is Mama Michelle. She was called the 'Purest Soprano in Popdom' by both Time magazine & the Saturday Evening Post back in 1967. My favorite album of theirs is their debut, "If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears". My favorite Mamas & Papas single is, "Monday Monday". Papa John was a musical genius. He is one of the greatest songwriters, guitarists, singers, and vocal arrangers of the 20th century. He along with their producer Lou Adler polished the group's magic in the recording studio. All of the group's 6 biggest hits reveal the magic that was the Mamas & Papas. Check them out. Their music is amazing. Go ahead and experience the magic.

Mama Michelle may have been a pop icon of The Mamas and the Papas, and certainly an attractive feature, but she was also the main reason for the dissolution of the group. She found it impossible to be faithful to husband John, which led to most of the friction in the group that had a totally adverse effect on Papa John's creativity and ability to avoid reliance on drugs for "moral support."
I blame the morally vacant Michelle for the early demise of the greatest male/female pop singing group of the 60s and beyond.
